The New Year begun with some disappointing news: the baby class that Birdy and I have been participating in since she was 3 months old will be cut short. It was supposed to end in March but, as two of the families are moving and two of the little ones are already starting kindergarten, our group has become too small to continue.
As it happens, some of the other moms are eager to continue meeting up and exploring other activities that Hamburg has to offer for moms and babies. So I figured that I might make the most of this turn of events and start a new series: a review of the various activities and events that Birdy and I try out in the coming weeks.
Here in Germany the typical parental leave is a year long so, at least in urban areas, there are plenty of offers for young parents who wish to get out of the house and do something with the baby. Birdy is a little too old for the very popular classes in baby massage and baby swimming but there are plenty of other options to explore.
I will kick off the series with a review of the PEKiP class that Birdy and I attended. Other posts will cover some of the offers at the local government-funded Elternschulen (parent schools), parent breakfast cafes, music classes, baby swimming, and more.
